"My dream is to become an Equestrian Athlete" Interview with Ken Sun (孫育仁)
One must not give up their dream unless you have tried your hardest.
Last Sunday, 13th of April, I interviewed a very optimistic friend that I met in Therapeutic Riding Center of Taiwan. His name is Ken Sun (孫育仁).
The first time I met Ken, I could tell that he is a very friendly and passionate person.
Although he is disabled, but his spirit and heart is strong and bright.
Ken is a person that knows a lot about horses, and he is not scared of them. Horses to him is an animal that gives him a whole new world. Horses' leg is Ken's leg. They combine and walk on together.
Ken teaches disables students how to ride a horse, he corrects their seating position patiently and encourages them to keep it up. He also taught me how to ride. He is very detailed and he is generous at giving what he already knows to people that wants to learn more about horses and horse back riding.
He is also a modest young man, sometimes Ken tell people "If you cannot understand what I say, please do ask me to repeat it, because I know my pronunciation aren't so clear and understandable sometimes"
Whenever he says that to me, I feel sorry for him. However, he shows people around him that there is nothing to be sorry about. He knows he has difficulties but he accept it wholeheartedly.
"I think this is a gift from God" Ken said during our interview.
Ken believes that horse riding therapy has brought him a different life. He feels that he has a better balance and gains more confidence. When asked what was the biggest difficulty for him, Ken said the hardest part was to hold on to his dream, however he did not let his dream go, he still holding on tight.
Another difficulty was to do the daily routines, for example, grooming a horse, cleaning the stable etc.
Ken said the most memorable time of him attending a competition is when in 2006, he went to Japan. It was his first time going abroad and attend an international competition. Even though it was Ken's first time, but he made Taiwan proud, he gained silver medal. Another time, he went to Guanzhou to compete for the Olympic Qualification. He was so close to be qualified. 0.01% point, then he would be there. Ken said "we need to always remember not to give up and be ready to face and conquer any kinds of obstacles in the future."
"Equestrian riding has brought me changes, not only body but also spiritually" Ken especially thanks Therapeutic Riding Center of Taiwan for accepting people who are disabled. Ken thanks the coach, his parents and family.
After the interview with Ken Sun, what I learn, and what you should learn is that you should have a goal, and you should not give it up easily. Find a meaning in life and live life to the most.
I personally like a quote I once read, and I will share it with you
"No Pressure, No Diamond"
Let's go and pursue our dream together!
Thank you for reading.
